   The EM-54/55 has a 1.5 inch body thickness and an arched top/flat back. The body outline is similar to the EM-34/35 model but with 20 frets and an increased neck angle.   The circuitry can be either passive or include an active system to boost and balance the piezo and magnetic pickup signals.
     This model can also be retrofit with an onboard synth-ready preamp (as pictured above in the bottom left image). Starting from the top, controls are: mag/piezo blend, instrument volume, instrument tone, synthesizer volume.   The top 3-way switch provides a choice of natural or synthesized sound with both on in the middle position. The bottom switch is a momentary 2-way for remote scrolling through a synthesizer patch bank.   Digital output is through a 13 pin DIN jack and the analog signal outputs through a standard mono 1/4 inch jack.   Compatible with Roland, Axon, and Yamaha MIDI interfaces, MIDI controllers, and synthesizers.
     All active circuitry is powered by a single 9-volt battery.
